Mindful Childbirth Classes

Mindfulness-Based Childbirth & Parenting Course

Are you scared to give birth? Overwhelmed about becoming a parent? Are you wanting to do something different this time to prepare for your second birth?

This class can help you cope with the fear and pain of childbirth and build the inner strength and confidence you will need for the journey!

We will learn about the normal physiology of childbirth while learning to access deep physical and mental relaxation.

The Mindfulness Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP) program is based on the book Mindful Birthing by Nancy Bardacke, CNM and on the evidence-based Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program. To learn more go to mindfulbirthing.org

The full MBCP series is held over 9 weeks. We meet weekly with a separate all day of practice embedded into the series (usually on a weekend day) to help us deepen our mindfulness practice.

The classroom setting is relaxed and all participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle (water cooler for refills available) and snacks. For some classes, we will sign up to take turns providing snacks each week to deepen community and connection.

Please dress comfortably and in layers. We will be on the floor for some of the time each class so wearing clothes that allow for this kind of activity is recommended. Feel free to bring your own pillows, meditation cushions and/or yoga mats if you desire but there will be some provided for you.

Each participant will be given the book Mindful Birthing upon registration along with a welcome packet that includes further information about the class format such as the class curriculum and weekly practice assignments.

Mind in Labor

This course is the MBCP program but in a weekend format! If you want to learn to use your mind to work with the challenges of childbirth but don’t have to the time to invest in a full series, this course is for you!

The Mind in Labor workshop is a time to look deeply at pain and fear in childbirth and to cultivate present moment awareness for meeting whatever childbirth experience might unfold.

The workshop is an excellent complement to any childbirth education class, including refresher classes. It can also be helpful for those who anticipate a birth experience requiring special medical attention or for those who have had a previous difficult birth experience.
